LASOC welcomes five Fellows from Whittier Law School

The Legal Aid Society of Orange County welcomes five Fellows from Whittier Law School: Summer Alannouf, Jenna Elhaj, Ryan Ficklin, Sharon Kea, and Joann Ko. This partnership with Whittier Law School not only allows newly graduated law students to receive hands-on training and work experience while awaiting their Bar results, but they also have the opportunity to provide much needed services to some of our community’s most vulnerable populations: veterans, the elderly, families, and low-income individuals. “This is the second year of our partnership with Whittier Law School,” says LASOC Staff Attorney Scott Barnes. “The benefits of this collaboration are two-fold, as Fellows are able to improve upon their skills by working directly with clients, while we are able to increase our capacity to provide much needed services to folks in need.” Meet our five Fellows:

Summer Alannouf

Year Graduated:
2014

Where you are from:
I’m from Los Alamitos, CA but originally from Syria. So I speak Arabic too.

Favorite food:
I love stuffed grape leaves and shawarma with pickles and garlic cream.

Hobby:
I love carpeting. I enjoy building things from wood and painting them.

What you hope to learn during your fellowship: 
I want to learn how to handle cases from the beginning to the end in my own. I like to know every twist and solution I can find for a case. I want to master the profession.

Dark chocolate

Hobby: 
Bicycling, reading, listening to music.

What you hope to learn during your fellowship: 
I plan to acquire more experience interacting with clients, gain legal knowledge and experience in the area of family law, and I intend to better understand how the Legal Aid Society operates in general.

What you hope to learn during your fellowship:
I want to learn more about family law and be able to assist clients that are seeking help from the family law assessment clinic. I hope to have a better understanding of the procedures involved in civil cases and family law cases. I also hope to refine my communication skills as I assist clients in moving forward with their cases.
